๐Ingredients & Notes
- Bananas: I like to keep a bag of frozen bananas in the freezer at all times. That way, all you need to do it throw a handful in your blender with fruit and you have a frosty, creamy smoothie. You can also use them in my popular Island Green Smoothie. Frozen bananas are the ideal smoothie base.
- Blackberries: Blackberries are at their peak in June and July. I like to buy a bunch and freeze them when they're at their peak freshness.
- Strawberries: This smoothie recipe calls for fresh strawberries because I like to use a combination of fresh and frozen fruit for smoothies. However, if frozen strawberries are what you have on hand, feel free to use them. The great thing about smoothies is how flexible they are.
- Almond Milk: Almond milk has a fresh, nutty taste that I love in smoothies. However, feel free to use whatever plant based milk you prefer. Soy milk and oat milk both work well.
- Yogurt: Coconut yogurt is my favorite vegan yogurt for smoothies, but soy yogurt also works.
- Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is my favorite refined sugar free sweetener for smoothies. This recipe only calls for one tablespoon. If your bananas are really ripe and sweet, you can omit the maple syrup.
๐จโ๐ณHow To Make A Strawberry Blackberry Banana Smoothie
- Step 1 - Freeze Bananas & Blackberries: Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Put your bananas and blackberries on the tray and freeze for at least 2 hours. I like to pop them in the freezer overnight so they're ready for the morning.
- Step 2 - Blend: Add all the ingredients to a blender and pulse until the smoothie is creamy. You can also use a bullet blender or a food processor.
- Step 3 - Serve: Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.
Top Tip
If you're in a hurry, it's perfectly fine to use fresh fruit. Fresh strawberries, blackberries and bananas will yield a slightly thinner smoothie, but it will still taste great!
๐กSmoothie Variations
- Throw in a handful of porridge oats for an added boost of fiber.
- Chia seeds make a wonderful, healthy addition to a smoothie.
- Roast the bananas before chopping and freezing them. Roasted bananas are extra sweet. Try them out in my Chia Banana Boost Smoothie recipe.
- How about a scoop of vanilla protein powder?
- Add some matcha powder.
- Add your favorite nut butter for a protein boost. I love almond butter in smoothies.
