I've shared my vegan guide to Starbuck's drinks for all the vegan coffee lovers out there, but did you know that you can easily make your favorite almond milk coffee at home?

With dairy free coffee drinks being all the rage, jump on the almond milk coffee bandwagon, and learn how to make a proper cup of jo in the comfort of your own home. Not only will you save money, but you'll be able to wake up to the perfect cup of coffee. That's hard to beat!

Follow along while I show you how to brew, froth and ice coffee with almond milk like a professional barista.

How To Make Espresso Coffee (With And Without An Espresso Maker)

The difference between the flavor of the coffee you make at home, and the one your favorite barista makes is probably espresso. Espresso is simply coffee kicked up a notch. It's made by using the pressure of steam to push water through very finely ground coffee.

Don't have an espresso maker? No worries, you can also use a stovetop espresso maker, sometimes called a Moka cup. They're inexpensive and easy to use. And, if you don't have a stovetop espresso maker you can brew a regular cup of coffee and add a pinch of espresso powder.

If you fancy a less caffeinated drink, feel free to use coffee, however you regularly brew it. It won't have the richness and intensity you get with espresso, but it will still be delicious.

    Can You Froth Almond Milk?

Lot's of people wonder if you can froth almond milk, and the answer is yes, you can! In fact almond milk froths up quite nicely. Here's my tips on getting your almond milk froth on:

    • Buy Barista Almond Milk: Barista almond milk is the secret to a great foam on top of your coffee, so if you want that foamy topping, this is the only way to go. You can use regular almond milk, but you'll get a slightly watery foam that separates quickly.
    • Use A Milk Frother: This is the best way to go! If you have an espresso maker, it will have a milk frother attachment. If not, you can buy a handheld milk frother whisk. They're inexpensive and work really well.
    • Frothing Almond Milk Without A Milk Frother: Pour your almond milk into a glass jar. Screw the lid on and shake the jar for 30 seconds. Quickly transfer the jar (without the lid) to the microwave and zap it for 30 seconds.

How To Make A Hot Coffee With Almond Milk (or a latte)

    1. Make your 2 shots of espresso. If you don't have an espresso maker, see my instructions above for making espresso without a machine. Alternatively, you can brew a regular cup of coffee.
    2. Froth ½ cup of almond milk : See my instructions above on how to froth almond milk.
    3. Add a sweetener: This isn't strictly necessary. In fact, I like almond milk coffee without sweeteners added, but be aware that almond milk is not nearly as sweet as cow's milk. So, if you're used to using cow's milk, adding a bit of sugar might be a good idea.

How To Make Iced Coffee With Almond Milk

    • Make Your 2 shots of espresso: Make your two shots of espresso. If you don't have an espresso maker, see my instructions above for how to make espresso without an espresso maker.
    • Stir in your vanilla: Cold coffee needs a bit of flavor in my opinion. That's why I recommend stirring in a bit of quality vanilla extract. If you'd like to add an additional sweetener (like sugar), stir that in now.
    • Allow your coffee to cool off for a few minutes.
    • Fill your glass with ice cubes.
    • Add cold almond milk and top with espresso.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is espresso bad for you?

Drinking espresso everyday is fine, as long as you drink it in moderation. In fact, espresso is full of antioxidants, and it's been proven to increase alertness. As with anything, moderation is the key.

How do you make espresso without an espresso maker?

To make espresso without an espresso maker there are a few options. The first is to use a stovetop espresso maker, sometimes called a Moka cup. They're inexpensive and easy to use. And, if you don't have a stovetop espresso maker you can brew a regular cup of coffee and add a pinch of espresso powder.
