๐จโ๐ณHow To Make A Sunrise Sunset Tropical Smoothie
- Add the frozen mango, pineapple, strawberries, pineapple juice, orange juice, and maple syrup (if using) to a blender.
- Blend on high until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more pineapple juice or orange juice in equal parts. If it's too thin, add a few more frozen fruit pieces.
- Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy immediately while cold. Garnish with a strawberry, mango, or pineapple slice!
Top Tip
If your blender is struggling to process the frozen fruit, try adding a little bit of the liquid (in this case, pineapple juice and orange juice) to the blender first, followed by the frozen fruit. This will help create a vortex and make it easier for your blender to break down the fruit.
If the smoothie is still too thick, add more liquid gradually until you reach the desired consistency. Remember to stop the blender and give it a shake or stir occasionally to ensure all the ingredients are evenly mixed.
โฐMeal Prep Instructions
I think smoothies are a great make-ahead option for an easy on-the-go healthy breakfast. Here's how to make the Sunrise Suset smoothie ahead of time:
- Prep the fruit: Measure out the frozen mango, pineapple, and strawberries, and place them in a freezer-safe container or resealable bag. If you're using fresh fruit, wash, chop, and freeze the fruit pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for about 2 hours, then transfer them to a container or bag.
- Portion the fruit: If you want to make individual servings, divide the frozen fruit mixture evenly into separate containers or resealable bags. This way, you can easily grab a pre-portioned amount when you're ready to blend your smoothie.
- Prep the juice: Measure out the pineapple juice and orange juice, and pour them into a separate container or jar with a tight-fitting lid. Alternatively, you can use store-bought juice blends to save time.
- Store in the freezer and fridge: Place the portioned frozen fruit in the freezer, and store the juice mixture in the refrigerator. The ingredients will stay fresh for up to 1 week in the fridge and several months in the freezer.
- Blend and enjoy: When you're ready to make your smoothie, simply grab a portion of the frozen fruit and the juice mixture from the fridge. Add them to your blender, along with honey (if desired), and blend until smooth. Enjoy your freshly made Sunrise Sunset Smoothie!
๐กVariations
The beauty of smoothies is their versatility โ you can easily customize you drink by adding or swapping ingredients to create your own unique blends. Here's a few of my favorite ideas to get you started:
- Protein-Packed Sunrise Sunset Smoothie: Add ยฝ cup of silken tofu or 1 scoop of your favorite vegan protein powder to boost the protein content and make the smoothie more filling.
- Sunrise Sunset Chia Smoothie: Add 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds to your smoothie before blending. Chia seeds are packed with fiber, healthy omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron.
- Sunrise Sunset Green Smoothie: Add a handful of spinach or kale to your smoothie for an extra dose of nutrients. Leafy greens are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like iron and calcium. The fruity flavors of the mango, pineapple, and strawberries will mask the taste of the greens.
- Sunrise Sunset Coconut Smoothie: Replace the orange juice with coconut milk or coconut water for a tropical twist. Coconut milk is rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are easily digestible and provide a quick source of energy. Coconut water is a natural source of electrolytes, which can help keep you hydrated.
