Tropical Smoothie Cafe makes some wonderful smoothies. I've made copycat recipes for Chia Banana Boost Smoothie and the popular Island Green Tropical Smoothie, and they're among the most popular recipes on Daily Dish. So, I thought why not make a copycat recipe of the much loved Peanut Paradise Tropical Smoothie?
It's super easy to make. The creaminess of frozen bananas makes it almost like a milkshake, but the ingredients are healthy enough for it to be a filling and nutritious breakfast.

๐Reasons You'll Love This Recipe
๐When you add the optional vegan protein powder, this smoothie becomes a protein powerhouse making it an excellent choice for a post-workout recovery drink or a meal replacement option.
๐By making this copycat recipe at home, you can enjoy the this popular smoothie without having to leave your house or spend money at a cafe. It's a cost-effective and convenient option that can be prepared whenever the craving strikes!
๐The blend of creamy peanut butter and the natural sweetness of bananas creates a rich and nutty flavor profile that's so yummy and satisfying.
๐Ingredients
- Peanut Butter: Choose an organic creamy peanut butter. You could also switch it up and use other nut butters like almond, cashew or pecan butter.
- Yogurt: Use the brand of vegan yogurt that you prefer. I normally use coconut yogurt, which doesn't taste of coconuts once you've added the other ingredients, but soy yogurt also works.
- Maple Syrup: You won't need the maple syrup if you're bananas are extra ripe. However, if they're not, it will add that extra bit of sweetness. Tropical Smoothie Cafe uses turbinado sugar, but maple syrup is a healthier option.
- Vanilla Extract: Vanilla adds depth of flavor. I always recommend using the best quality vanilla you can afford.
- Plant Based Milk: I used almond milk, but any plant based milk will do.
- Optional Protein Powder: Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers a choice of vegan or non-vegan protein in the original Peanut Paradise Smoothie. So, if you want to, add a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder.
๐ฅHow To Make A Peanut Paradise Tropical Smoothie
- In a blender, combine the frozen bananas, creamy peanut butter, almond milk, vegan yogurt, and vegan protein powder (if using).
- If desired, add the maple syrup for additional sweetness. You probably won't need to do this if you're bananas are really ripe. However, if they're not the maple syrup will add some sweetness.
- Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. If the consistency is too thick, you can add more almond milk to achieve your desired thickness.
- Once blended to your liking, pour the Peanut Paradise Smoothie into a glass.
- If desired, garnish with a sprinkle of crushed peanuts or a drizzle of peanut butter.
Top Tip
To prevent your frozen bananas from jamming up your blender, add the liquid ingredients first!
๐ฅคVariations
One of the beauties of making the Peanut Paradise Tropical Smoothie at home, is the myriad of ways you can customize it. Here's a few suggestions:
- Boost the nutritional value by adding a handful of spinach or kale to the smoothie. The leafy greens will add extra vitamins, minerals, and fiber, while the peanut butter and other ingredients help mask the taste of the greens.
- For a decadent twist, add a tablespoon of cocoa powder or a scoop of chocolate vegan protein powder to the base recipe. The combination of chocolate and peanut butter is delicious.
- Sprinkle some crushed peanuts, almond slivers, chia seeds or flaxseeds on top of the smoothie for added texture and a nutritional boost.
- Cinnamon is a lovely addition to this smoothie.

Save time in the morning by having your smoothie prepped and ready to enjoy. Experiment with these approaches to find the one that suits your schedule:
- Refrigerate Overnight: Prepare the smoothie as instructed and transfer it to an airtight container or a sealable mason jar. Place it in the refrigerator overnight. The smoothie should stay fresh and retain its flavors until the morning. Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
- Freeze in Individual Portions: If you want to make the smoothie well in advance, consider freezing it in individual portions. Pour the prepared smoothie into ice cube trays or freezer-safe containers. When you're ready to enjoy it, simply thaw the frozen portion in the refrigerator overnight. Blend it or give it a good shake in the morning to bring it back to a smooth consistency.
- Prepped Ingredients: Another option is to pre-measure and prepare the ingredients the night before. Peel and slice the bananas, measure the peanut butter, and gather all the other ingredients. Store them separately in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. In the morning, simply blend the ingredients together to make the smoothie quickly.
