๐จโ๐ณHow To Make Vegan Pigs In A Blanket
- Preheat your oven to 360 F (180 C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Pop open your crescent roll tube. Lay the triangular pieces of dough point side down on a lightly floured surface. Lay the sausage at the top of the triangle (see photo). You want for the ends of the sausages to show, so if your sausages are smaller than the dough, give it a trim with your kitchen scissors. If the vegan sausage you're using are bigger than the triangle of dough, you're good to go!
- Once your dough has been cut to the right size, put a thin scraping of cranberry jelly down the center of the triangle. Leave a generous border free from cranberry jelly.
- Starting at the long top side (where the sausage is), roll the puff pasty around the vegan sausage, sealing the tip down with your finger. Transfer your vegan pigs in a blanket to your baking tray.
- Brush some soy milk over the tops of the dough, and sprinkle with poppy seeds. You could also use sesame seeds here. Bake for 15 -20 minutes, or until the dough is crispy and golden brown. Enjoy!

๐Frequently Asked Questions About This Recipe
Traditional pigs in a blanket, which are made with pork sausages wrapped in a wheat-based pastry dough, do contain gluten due to the wheat flour used in the dough. However, if you make a vegan version of pigs in a blanket using gluten-free pastry dough and vegan sausages, they can be gluten-free. Always check ingredient labels or recipes to ensure the products you use are gluten-free if you have dietary restrictions.
Pigs in a blanket are typically enjoyed warm or at room temperature to fully appreciate their crispy pastry and the flavors of the filling. While you can eat them cold, they may not be as enjoyable, as the pastry can become less crisp when chilled, and the flavors may not be as vibrant. Reheating them in an oven or microwave before serving is a better option if you want to enjoy their intended taste and texture.

Megan
Can I use the small field roast breakfast sausages for this? Im not sure how they compare to the larger ones from field roast.
Keri Bevan
Hi Megan, I used vegan sausages that are the same size as breakfast links (smaller). I think you should be able to use field roast breakfast sausages (the smaller ones). If they're too small, the crescent dough will be larger than the sausage and you'll need to cut it to fit.
Brooke
Do you fully cook the sausage links before putting them inside the crescent rolls? From the photos it looks like it but I wanted to be sure.
Keri Bevan
Hi Brooke,
No, there's no need to cook the vegan sausage before you put them in the crescent rolls. They'll cook in the oven. Hope that helps!
