Edible vegan cookie dough, anyone? It's so addictive, I dare you not to eat the whole bowl. And, why stop at just cookie dough? I've included the optional, but highly recommended, extra step of turning your vegan cookie dough into truffles. It doesn't get much better than that.

Who doesn't love chocolate chip cookie dough? ๐Ÿ™‹ We've probably all eaten more than a few spoonfuls while baking a batch of cookies! However, raw cookie dough can be unsafe. Traditionally chocolate chip cookie dough contains raw eggs and untreated raw flour, both of which can contain harmful bacteria.

This vegan cookie dough is totally safe to eat as they contain no eggs, and I'll show you two simple ways to heat treat your flour. Plus, if you're feeling fancy, turn that cookie dough into truffles. It's one simple added step. You can stop at the cookie dough if you like, but the truffles are an added layer of delicious.

Top Tip: You might also like my edible brownie batter recipe!

    ๐Ÿ’šReasons You'll Love This Recipe

๐Ÿ’šBecause who needs eggs and dairy when you can have a scrumptious, guilt-free vegan cookie dough that's totally plant-powered!

๐Ÿ’šNo baking required! Just mix and eat!

๐Ÿ’šThis recipe is a two-for-one. You can make the edible vegan cookie dough and just stop there. Or, you can add another layer of decadence by rolling your cookie dough into chocolate coated truffles (highly recommended)

Ingredients needed to make vegan cookie dough or vegan cookie dough truffles.

    ๐Ÿ›’Ingredients

    • Flour: We'll be using all purpose flour that has been heat treated. It only takes a few minutes and heat treating your flour ensures that your vegan cookie dough truffles are safe to eat.
    • Sugar: Granulated sugar is what I used, but make sure that your granulated sugar is vegan if you live in an area where sugar is processed with bone char. If you want to understand more about this issue, have a look at this article by PETA: Is Sugar Vegan?
    • Light Brown Sugar: Light brown sugar adds moisture and sweetness.
    • Soy Milk: You can use any plant based milk you prefer including almond milk, coconut milk and oat milk.
    • Vanilla: Vanilla lifts the flavor of all baked goods. Be sure to buy the best quality you can afford. The flavor really makes a difference.
    • Salt: Salt makes all the flavors pop.
    • Vegan Chocolate Chips: It's not difficult to find chocolate chips that are made without milk. Don't go for semi sweet - choose dark chocolate. For more information on how to choose a vegan brand of chocolate chips, check out this article, "Are Chocolate Chips Vegan?"
    • Dark Chocolate: Choose a good quality dark chocolate that isn't made with milk. PS, You'll only need the dark chocolate if you plant to make the vegan cookie dough truffles.

๐ŸฅฃHow To Make Vegan Cookie Dough

    • The first thing you'll need to do is to heat treat your flour. Flour, though it doesn't seem like it, is a raw product that can carry bacteria and pathogens. Even though we've all probably eaten raw cookie dough, it's best to error on the side of caution and heat treat your flour before you use it. This is an edible cookie dough recipe, so heat treating is a must. There are two basic methods, both of them simple.
      • Microwave Method: Put the flour in a microwaveable dish. Heat it in 30 second intervals for 2 minutes, stirring between intervals.
      • Oven Method: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and bake your flour at 65 F (74 C) for 5 minutes. Give the pan a good shake at the half way point.

    • Next, in a large mixing bowl, cream together your vegan butter, sugar, light brown sugar, vanilla and soy milk.
    • Tip your heat treated flour and salt into the bowl. Mix until everything is well combined.
    • Fold in your chocolate chips, and pop the bowl into the fridge to chill for 30 minutes. And, that's it. You're done making edible vegan cookie dough. If you want to make vegan cookie dough truffles, simply follow the additional steps.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸณHow To Make Vegan Cookie Dough Truffles

    • Once your vegan cookie dough has chilled, roll one tablespoon sized bowl and place them on a parchment lined baking tray. Insert toothpicks into each ball. This will make it easier to dip your chocolate chip cookie dough balls into your melted chocolate.
    • Put the tray in the freezer for 30 minutes.
    • Put your dark chocolate in a microwave safe dish and heat it at 30 second intervals, stirring between intervals until the chocolate is melted.
    • Using the toothpick, dip your cookie dough balls into the melted chocolate, allowing the excess chocolate to drip off. Return them to the baking tray and remove the toothpick.
    • Chill your vegan chocolate chip cookie dough truffles for an additional 10 minutes.
    • That's it! Tuck in and enjoy!

    ๐Ÿ’กVariations

I know chocolate chip cookie dough is the gold standard, but if you're feeling adventurous you can make these variations. Feel free to experiment with these variations or even come up with your own creative combinations. Enjoy your vegan cookie dough in different flavors and textures!

    1. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough:
      • Add ยผ cup of creamy peanut butter to the creamed mixture of vegan butter, sugar, and soy milk.
      • Replace half of the chocolate chips with chopped roasted peanuts or peanut butter chips.
    2. Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough:
      • Add ยฝ teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the creamed mixture for a classic oatmeal cookie flavor.
      • Fold in ยฝ cup of raisins and ยผ cup of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans. * If you're a fan of oatmeal raisin cookies, be sure to check out my vegan oatmeal raisin cookie recipe.
    3. Coconut Lime Cookie Dough:

      • Replace half of the chocolate chips with shredded coconut or coconut flakes.

      • Fold in ยผ cup of chopped almonds and ยผ cup of shredded coconut or coconut flakes.
    5. Trail Mix Cookie Dough:

    โ„๏ธStorage

    Vegan Cookie Dough

    • Store the prepared cookie dough in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag.
    • Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. This allows you to enjoy the dough as a ready-to-eat treat straight from the fridge.
    • If you want to keep it for longer, you can freeze the cookie dough. Place it in a freezer-safe container or wrap it tightly with plastic wrap, then store it in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before consuming or using in recipes.

    Truffles

    • Store the finished truffles in an airtight container or a shallow dish lined with parchment paper.
    • Keep them in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks.
    • If you've dipped the truffles in melted chocolate, they may be more stable at room temperature, but it's best to refrigerate them to maintain their shape and texture.
