๐ญHow To Toast Hot Dog Buns
Here are my top three ways to toast hot dog buns:
- Grill: If you're serving these vegan chili dogs at a BBQ or cookout, you'll want to throw them on the grill. First, brush the inside of the buns lightly with maragrine, then place them face down on a preheated grill for 10-20 seconds until light grill marks appear and the buns are lightly toasted. They'll have a nice smoky flavor.
- Stovetop: Melt a small amount of margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Place the buns face down in the skillet and toast for 30-60 seconds until golden brown. Flip and toast the outside for an additional 10-15 seconds. This method works best if you only have a few buns you want to heat.
- Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Arrange the buns on a baking sheet, open-side up. Place them in the oven for 5 minutes or until lightly toasted and warm. For a buttery flavor, brush the inside of the buns with melted vegan butter before toasting. This method is best if you're planning on cooking your vegan hot dogs in the oven.
My Favorite Vegan Chili Dog Toppings
- Diced raw onions: For a classic flavor and satisfying crunch. I like to use red onions.
- Mexican Pickled Onions: These tangy and bright pink onions add a zesty kick and a pop of color to your vegan chili dogs.
- Sliced jalapeรฑos: Add a spicy kick to your chili dogs for heat lovers.
- Vegan sour cream: A cool and tangy topping that balances out the spiciness of the chili.
- Chopped fresh cilantro: Brings a fresh, herbaceous flavor to the mix.
- Guacamole: Homemade guacamole or this avocado spread.
- Crushed tortilla chips: Adds a satisfying crunch and a touch of saltiness.
- Vegan Nacho Cheese Sauce: A rich and creamy cheese sauce that perfectly complements the chili and toppings.
- Diced tomatoes: Provides a fresh, juicy element to your loaded chili dogs. Hot sauce: Drizzle your favorite hot sauce on top for an extra spicy kick.
- Your favorite vegan shredded cheddar cheese.
