The Isle of Wight isn't just about stunning beaches and coastal walks – it's a proper foodie paradise too!

From seafood spots with ocean views to farm-to-table gems tucked away in the countryside, this little island packs a serious culinary punch. Whether you're after posh nosh or hearty local grub, these restaurants showcase the very best island flavours.

Perched dramatically on Ventnor's Esplanade, this seafront stunner offers panoramic views that'll make your jaw drop faster than the anchor on a fishing boat. The locally-caught seafood changes with the tides and seasons.

Tom Fahey, a self-taught chef and former restaurant critic, is responsible for the culinary offerings.

Fancy watching the sunset with a plate of buttery lobster? These twin seafood havens in Ventnor and Cowes deliver coastal cuisine that'll make you weep with joy.

Their signature smoky flavours come from secret techniques that transform fresh-off-the-boat catches into something truly magical. The lobster mac and cheese has achieved legendary status among islanders.

Hidden down a Ventnor backstreet, this tiny culinary gem strips everything back to basics – hence the clever name. The minimalist menu changes weekly, sometimes daily, depending on what treasures the island's producers have available.

With just 20 seats, booking ahead is essential. The hand-written menu and open kitchen create an intimate dinner party vibe.

    RT Café Grill

Rising from the ashes of Thompson's fine dining establishment, this Newport hotspot has reinvented itself brilliantly. Chef Robert Thompson (the island's first Michelin star winner) now serves up relaxed brasserie-style dishes with the same impeccable attention to detail.

The weekday lunch deals are an absolute steal for food of this calibre.

    Heron

From pop-up sensation to Ryde's worst-kept secret, Heron's journey has been anything but ordinary. Chef Alex Kimber works magic with foraged ingredients and heritage cooking techniques that would make your nan proud.

The tasting menu experience feels like a culinary tour of the island's hedgerows, shorelines and farms. Book the chef's table for the full theatrical experience.

    The Hut

Swanky yachties and celebs flock to this beachfront beauty near Yarmouth each summer. Don't let that put you off – The Hut's relaxed Mediterranean vibes and sensational seafood platters are worth elbowing past the occasional famous face.

George and Matt Adams acquired The Hut in 2011. Under their ownership, the restaurant has seen significant growth and has become a popular destination on the Isle of Wight. Arrive by boat for the full experience (they'll send a tender to collect you) or grab a table on the deck at sunset.

    The Duck

A stone's throw from Ryde's sandy beaches, this quirky bistro serves up comfort food with proper cheffy flourishes. The namesake duck appears throughout the menu in clever, unexpected ways – from crispy confit to velvety parfait.

The Sunday roasts have achieved cult status among locals, who book weeks ahead. Portions are gloriously generous, so arrive hungry!

    The Garlic Farm Restaurant

Garlic ice cream? Trust me, it works! This farm-to-table restaurant in Newchurch celebrates the stinking rose in all its glorious forms. Set amid rolling fields where the pungent bulbs are grown, the rustic barn setting couldn't be more authentic.

Every dish features garlic in some form – even the puddings! The farm shop next door lets you take the flavours home.

    The Cow Restaurant & Bar

Housed in a converted Swiss barn at Tapnell Farm near Yarmouth, this family-friendly spot celebrates all things bovine. The burgers are legendary – proper hand-formed patties from cattle raised just outside the window.

Kids can burn off energy at the adjoining farm park while parents sample local ales. The sunset views across the countryside towards The Needles are absolutely stunning.

    Number 3

Tucked away on Cowes High Street, this unassuming little gem punches well above its weight. The husband-and-wife team work miracles in a kitchen smaller than most home setups, creating Mediterranean-inspired small plates that change with the seasons.

Hugh Corcoran is the chef and owner of Number 3. He is known for his firebrand approach to cooking and has previously been associated with London's most controversial restaurant, The Yellow Bittern.
