A walk along Brighton’s seafront has a way of sharpening the appetite, with sea air, open skies, and the steady rhythm of the waves setting the perfect backdrop for a relaxed bite to eat.

Cafés, beach shacks, and neighbourhood favourites line the promenade and nearby streets, offering everything from fresh seafood to comforting classics that travel well in hand or taste even better when you can linger.

Pairing a coastal stroll with a good meal turns a simple outing into a small but satisfying escape from everyday routine.

These nine Brighton food spots are ideal for refuelling after a seaside wander, whether you fancy something light, warming, or properly indulgent.

This article is for general information only.

Opening hours, menus, prices, and availability may change, and experiences can vary by visit and season.

Always check directly with venues before travelling.

Right on the seafront, this spot serves some of the freshest seafood you'll find in Brighton, with oysters that taste like the ocean itself.

The sleek interior feels fancy without being stuffy, making it perfect whether you're celebrating something special or just treating yourself after a windy walk.

Their shellfish platters are absolutely stunning, piled high with prawns, crab, and lobster.

Pop in for lunch and watch the waves through the floor-to-ceiling windows whilst tucking into perfectly prepared fish that arrived at the docks that very morning.

    2. Salt Shed At The West Pier

Named after the iconic skeletal pier visible from its terrace, Salt Shed champions locally sourced ingredients with a menu that celebrates Sussex produce.

Their breakfast is legendary – fluffy pancakes, proper sausages, eggs cooked however you fancy – and lunch features hearty salads and sandwiches packed with flavour.

The outdoor seating area is unbeatable on sunny days, offering front-row views of the ruined pier's haunting beauty.

Grab a flat white and a slice of their homemade cake, and you've got the perfect post-walk pit stop sorted.

    3. Regency Seafood Restaurant

Family-run for decades, this place knows exactly how to fry fish to golden, crispy perfection whilst keeping the flesh inside flaky and tender.

Forget fancy plating – here you get proper portions served with mushy peas and thick-cut chips that actually fill you up.

The smell of battered cod hits you the moment you walk in, and the staff treat regulars like old mates.

Grab a window seat if you can, order the plaice, and enjoy watching Brighton life unfold outside whilst your taste buds do a happy dance.

    4. Bill's Brighton Restaurant

Originally a humble greengroccer's shop, Bill's has grown into a Brighton institution famous for its all-day brunch menu and quirky, colourful interiors crammed with vintage finds.

Their pancakes dripping with maple syrup are Instagram-famous for good reason, whilst the full English arrives on plates so loaded you'll wonder how they fit it all on.

The vibe is cheerful and buzzing, with mismatched furniture and shelves stacked with preserves and treats.

Perfect for refuelling after your walk, especially if you fancy something comforting and crowd-pleasing.

    5. Brighton Shellfish & Oyster Bar

Standing at this tiny seafront kiosk feels like a proper Brighton tradition – you order through a window, then perch on the wall with your seafood and the whole ocean as your dining room.

Their oysters come freshly shucked with lemon and Tabasco, whilst the dressed crab is sweet and buttery, served simply so the natural flavours shine.

There's no fuss, no frills, just brilliant shellfish eaten metres from where it was caught.

Seagulls might eye your prawns enviously, but that's all part of the seaside charm, innit?

    6. Brighton Smokehouse

Smoke billows from their custom-built smoker, infusing salmon, mackerel, and trout with deep, woody flavours that make your mouth water before you even sit down.

Everything here is smoked on-site using traditional methods, and you can taste the care in every flaky, tender bite.

Their smoked fish pâté on sourdough is ridiculously good, and the smoked salmon bagels are piled so high you'll need both hands.

It's casual, friendly, and utterly delicious – exactly what you want after working up an appetite along the prom.

    7. Dishoom Permit Room Brighton

Step inside and you're transported to a 1920s Bombay café, complete with vintage fans, marble tabletops, and the intoxicating aroma of spices and fresh naan bread.

Their breakfast bacon naan is legendary – crispy bacon tucked into pillowy bread with cream cheese and chilli jam – whilst the biryanis and curries are fragrant, complex, and utterly satisfying.

The Permit Room section serves creative mocktails that are just as exciting as the food.

It's theatrical, delicious, and a brilliant way to warm up after a breezy seaside wander.

    8. Riddle & Finns The Lanes

Tucked in Brighton's famous winding Lanes, this sister spot to the beach location offers the same exceptional seafood in a more intimate, champagne-bar atmosphere.

The menu features daily specials chalked on boards – whatever's freshest gets star billing – alongside classics like lobster thermidor and grilled Dover sole.

It's slightly more sheltered than the beachfront, making it ideal when the wind picks up but you still fancy top-notch fish.

The oyster selection is magnificent, and pairing different varieties is a delicious education in how terroir affects shellfish flavour.

    9. Sea Haze

Tucked along the arches, Sea Haze brings Mediterranean sunshine to Brighton's coastline with vibrant small plates designed for sharing.

Their menu changes with the seasons, but expect bold flavours – think grilled octopus with paprika, whipped feta with honey, and charred vegetables drizzled in herb oils.

The atmosphere feels relaxed and beachy, with mismatched chairs and fairy lights strung overhead.

It's brilliant for groups who want to try a bit of everything whilst the sea breeze drifts through the open front, carrying the scent of salt and adventure.
