Sharing a snack with your pet can be a sweet little bonding moment, especially when you both get to enjoy the same treat.

Some human foods are perfectly safe for furry friends in moderation, and they might even love them as much as you do.

Here are a few everyday nibbles you can safely pass their way without worry.

All information is provided for general interest only. Always check with a qualified veterinarian before introducing new foods to your pet. Portion size, preparation, and specific health needs can vary.

    1. Cooked Chicken (Plain, Boneless)

Protein-packed and universally loved, plain chicken is basically the gold standard of pet treats.

Most dogs and cats go absolutely bonkers for it, making it brilliant for training or just spoiling your mate.

Strip away the skin, ditch any seasoning, and ensure every bone is gone before serving.

It's lean, easily digestible, and won't upset sensitive tummies when given in sensible portions.

    2. Cooked Salmon Or Tuna (Boneless, Plain)

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, these fish options do wonders for your pet's coat and joints.

Cats particularly fancy a bit of tuna, though dogs aren't far behind in their enthusiasm.

Always cook it thoroughly, remove every single bone, and keep it completely plain without any oils, butter, or fancy seasonings.

Moderation matters here since too much can be overwhelming.

    3. Plain Carrot Sticks

Crunchy, naturally sweet, and brilliant for dental health, carrots are the unsung heroes of pet snacks.

Dogs especially love the satisfying crunch, which helps scrape away plaque whilst they munch.

Slice them into manageable pieces to prevent choking, and feel free to serve them raw or lightly steamed.

They're low in calories too, making them ideal for pets watching their waistline.

    4. Green Beans (Raw Or Lightly Cooked)

Looking for a filling snack that won't pile on the pounds?

    Green beans are your answer.

They're packed with fibre and vitamins whilst being incredibly low in calories, making them perfect for pets needing to slim down.

Serve them raw for maximum crunch or lightly steam them for easier chewing.

Just keep them plain, no butter, salt, or garlic allowed anywhere near them.

    5. Blueberries

These tiny powerhouses are bursting with antioxidants that support your pet's immune system beautifully.

Dogs and cats can both enjoy them, though some pets need a moment to figure out what to make of the texture.

Serve them fresh or frozen for a cooling summer treat.

Their small size makes them brilliant training rewards, though don't go overboard since they do contain natural sugars.

    6. Apple Slices (Seeds & Core Removed)

Crisp, refreshing, and loaded with vitamins, apples make a delightful occasional treat for your furry companion.

The natural sweetness appeals to many pets, whilst the crunch helps clean teeth as they chew.

Always remove the core and every single seed, as apple seeds contain compounds that aren't pet-friendly.

Slice them thin to prevent choking and serve in moderation due to sugar content.

    7. Plain Unsweetened Yogurt

Creamy and packed with probiotics, plain yogurt can actually support your pet's digestive health wonderfully.

Many pets absolutely adore the tangy flavour and smooth texture, making it easy to sneak medications in when needed.

Stick to unsweetened varieties without any artificial sweeteners, especially xylitol which is extremely dangerous.

A spoonful or two is plenty, particularly if your pet isn't used to dairy.

    8. Cooked Eggs (Hard-Boiled Or Scrambled, Plain)

Eggs are nutritional powerhouses, delivering complete protein alongside essential amino acids your pet needs.

Whether you scramble them or hard-boil them, keep everything completely plain without butter, oil, salt, or seasonings.

Most pets find them absolutely irresistible, and they're brilliant for adding shine to coats.

Cook them thoroughly though, as raw eggs can pose salmonella risks and interfere with biotin absorption.

    9. Plain Popcorn (Air-Popped, No Butter/Salt)

Believe it or not, plain popcorn makes a fun, low-calorie treat that many pets find entertaining to chase and catch.

It's a whole grain that provides fibre, though it offers minimal nutritional value beyond that.

Air-pop it without any butter, oil, salt, or flavourings whatsoever.

Watch out for unpopped kernels which pose choking hazards, and keep portions small since it's quite filling.

    10. Pumpkin (Plain, Cooked Or Canned, No Sugar/Spices)

A proper superstar for digestive issues, pumpkin can help with both diarrhoea and constipation thanks to its fibre content.

Use plain canned pumpkin or cook fresh pumpkin yourself, but absolutely avoid pie filling which contains harmful spices and sugars.

Most pets enjoy the mild, slightly sweet flavour.

A spoonful mixed into their regular food works wonders, or serve it solo as a nutritious treat.

    11. Sweet Potato (Plain, Cooked)

Naturally sweet and loaded with vitamins, sweet potatoes are brilliant for pets needing extra nutrients in their diet.

Bake, boil, or steam them until soft, then let them cool completely before serving.

Skip the marshmallows, butter, and cinnamon that humans love, keeping everything entirely plain.

They're filling and nutritious, making them perfect for pets with hearty appetites who need healthy snack options.
