Healthy Homemade Nutella Recipe You’ll Want To Spread On Everything

If you’ve ever read the back of a Nutella jar, you might be a little shocked by how many mystery ingredients go into it.

That’s exactly why food blogger Jeremy from @thecontrarianmoney decided to make his own – and the result is pure chocolatey bliss. His version is smoother, richer, and far cleaner than anything you’ll find on a supermarket shelf.

The best part? It’s ready in just 15 minutes.

This article is for general informational purposes only and not a substitute for professional dietary or nutritional advice. Storage times may vary depending on ingredients and conditions.

    Why Make It Yourself

Homemade Nutella isn’t just about being “healthy” – it’s about flavour. Roasting the hazelnuts yourself gives the spread a deep, toasty aroma that factory-made versions can’t touch.

You’re also in full control of the sweetness and texture. Want it velvety and light? Add a splash of milk. Prefer it thick and spoonable? Skip it.

It’s the kind of customisation you’ll never get from a jar.

    What You’ll Need

For this amazing healthy hazelnut spread recipe, you'll only need few simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry:

    • 2 cups raw hazelnuts (about 0.75 lb)

    • ¼ cup cocoa powder

    • ⅓ cup sweetener of your choice (try coconut sugar, maple syrup, or agave)

    • ¼ teaspoon salt

    • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

    • Optional: 1 tablespoon neutral oil or ½ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy) for a creamier texture

    How To Make It

Preheat your oven to 200°C and roast the hazelnuts for 7 minutes until fragrant. Wrap them in a clean tea towel and rub to remove most of the skins.

Pop them into a blender and blitz until smooth, scraping down the sides as you go – about 3 to 4 minutes.

Add cocoa powder, your chosen sweetener, salt, and vanilla. Blend again for another 2 to 3 minutes.

For extra silkiness, add a spoon of oil or a splash of milk.

Store your homemade Nutella in a sealed jar – in the fridge if made with milk, or in the cupboard if made with oil.

    How To Enjoy It

Spread it on toast, drizzle it over porridge, dip fruit into it, or eat it straight from the spoon (we won’t tell).

This homemade Nutella is indulgent without being over the top – rich, nutty, and utterly satisfying. It’s proof that healthy doesn’t have to mean boring.
