Finding great value for money when dining out has become increasingly challenging in recent years. Rising food costs and inflation have made restaurant meals more expensive across the board.

However, several UK restaurant chains continue to offer generous portions at wallet-friendly prices, proving that you don't need to break the bank for a satisfying meal.

This content is for general information only. Prices, portion sizes, and availability may vary by location and over time. Photos are for illustrative purposes only and may not represent the exact meals.

Famous for their unbeatable breakfast deals and hearty pub grub, Wetherspoons remains a champion of affordable dining. Their full English breakfast comes piled high with bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, and toast for under a fiver.

The curry club on Thursday offers restaurant-quality Indian dishes with rice, naan, and poppadoms at incredibly low prices. Most mains hover around £6-8 whilst delivering portions that easily satisfy even the hungriest diners.

Nothing beats the spectacle of watching chefs carve fresh roast beef, turkey, and gammon right before your eyes. Toby Carvery's carvery counter groans under the weight of multiple roasted meats, crispy Yorkshire puddings, and endless vegetable options.

For around £8-10, you can pile your plate as high as structurally possible. The unlimited vegetables policy means you're getting exceptional value, especially if you love your roast potatoes and seasonal veg.

    3. Five Guys

American-style portions meet British appetites at Five Guys, where regular fries could easily feed two people. Their burgers arrive wrapped in foil, towering with fresh toppings and hand-formed patties that actually taste like proper beef.

The famous chip portions are legendary amongst students and families alike. Order a small portion and watch staff fill your cup, then dump another scoop into the bag for good measure. It's expensive initially but the sheer quantity justifies every penny.

    4. Wagamama

Asian comfort food reaches new heights at Wagamama, where steaming bowls of ramen arrive brimming with noodles, vegetables, and protein. Their signature katsu curry delivers a crispy chicken breast the size of your palm alongside mountains of fluffy rice.

The sharing plates concept works brilliantly for groups, but even individual portions satisfy completely. Gyoza dumplings come in generous sixes, whilst their pad thai arrives in bowls deep enough to require serious commitment from even dedicated noodle enthusiasts.

    5. Frankie & Benny's

American-Italian fusion reaches impressive proportions at Frankie & Benny's, where sharing nachos arrive on platters designed for small armies. Their burgers require serious jaw dislocation, stacked impossibly high with multiple patties and toppings.

The pasta portions follow proper Italian-American traditions, meaning enormous bowls of creamy carbonara or meaty bolognese. Kids eat free promotions make family dining incredibly affordable, whilst their famous ribs come in half-rack portions that challenge even dedicated carnivores to finish completely.

    6. Harvester

The unlimited salad bar remains Harvester's crown jewel, transforming any main course into a feast of epic proportions. Their grilled chicken arrives alongside access to fresh vegetables, coleslaw, pasta salads, and crusty bread rolls.

Rotisserie chicken portions come with crispy skin and juicy meat that falls off the bone. Combined with the salad bar, you're looking at restaurant-quality protein with unlimited sides. The family atmosphere and reasonable prices make it perfect for celebrations without the fine-dining expense.

    7. Greggs

Britain's beloved bakery chain proves that budget dining doesn't require table service. Their steak bakes contain actual chunks of beef in rich gravy, whilst sausage rolls arrive warm and flaky from the oven.

The meal deals offer incredible value, combining a sandwich, snack, and drink for under £4. Baguettes come stuffed to bursting point with fillings, and their pizza slices could easily substitute for a proper lunch. Perfect for grabbing substantial food without the restaurant markup.
