I Tried Digestives From Aldi, Lidl, M&S And 6 More, Best Was £1.36 Cheaper Than Mcvitie's

Tea time isn't complete without a proper digestive biscuit, but with so many options on the market, which one gives you the best bang for your buck?

I embarked on a mission to taste-test different digestives from popular UK supermarkets.

The results were surprising, with one budget-friendly option outshining the iconic McVitie's while saving me a whopping £1.36.

Crikey, these are dead ringers for McVitie's! The Belmont biscuits crumble with that perfect snap when dunked in tea.

At just 57p for a 400g pack, they're an absolute steal. The malty flavour has depth without being overpowering, making them ideal for both plain snacking and the base of a proper cheesecake.

Lidl - Tower Gate Digestive Biscuits

Fancy a cheeky digestive that punches above its weight? Tower Gate delivers surprising crunch and a robust wheaty flavour that had me reaching for seconds.

The texture varies slightly between batches, but at 65p per pack, I'm not complaining. These hold up brilliantly when dunked – no soggy bottoms here!

Tesco - Everyday Value Digestive Biscuits

Budget-friendly but unmemorable – that's Tesco's offering in a nutshell. The flavour sits firmly in neutral territory, neither impressing nor disappointing.

At 55p, they're among the cheapest of the bunch. The slightly dry texture means they're best enjoyed with a proper cuppa to soften them up a bit.

These biscuits pack a proper malty punch that genuinely surprised me! The sturdy crunch makes them perfect candidates for chocolate-dipping experiments at home.

At 70p, they're slightly pricier than some budget options. Worth every penny though – especially for the rich, almost caramel-like undertones that develop with each chew.

    Asda - Digestive Biscuits

Blimey, these are inconsistent! Some packs offer a satisfying crunch while others seem a bit soft straight out of the packet.

The flavour is decent enough – not remarkable but gets the job done. For 60p, they're a serviceable option when you're already doing your weekly shop at Asda and fancy a biccie with your brew.

    M&S - Digestive Biscuits

Posh biscuits with a price tag to match! M&S digestives boast a distinctly buttery quality that sets them apart from cheaper rivals.

The texture has become softer in recent batches – disappointing for dunking purists. Still, the rich malty flavour profile makes these worth the occasional splurge at £1 per pack when you're feeling a bit fancy.

    Co-Op - Digestive Biscuits

A middle-of-the-road contender with no particular standout qualities. Co-op's offering delivers exactly what you'd expect from a digestive – no more, no less.

The flavour is pleasantly traditional with a hint of sweetness. At 85p per pack, they're neither a bargain nor a luxury, making them the definition of a solid but unexciting option.

    Iceland - Digestive Biscuits

Bargain hunters rejoice! At just 50p per pack, Iceland's digestives are the cheapest of the bunch, but does the quality match up?

The texture leans toward the drier side, practically begging to be dunked. Flavour-wise, they're mild but perfectly acceptable for everyday snacking when you're watching the pennies but still need your biscuit fix.

    Waitrose - Essential Digestive Biscuits

Waitrose shoppers expect quality, and these digestives don't disappoint. The robust crunch gives way to a complex malty flavour that lingers pleasantly.

At £1.20, they're the priciest supermarket-own option tested. Despite the 'Essential' branding, there's nothing basic about these biscuits – they're proper teatime treats for those willing to spend a bit more.
