Where To Find The Best Steak In London

London's meat scene has transformed from boring pub grub to a carnivore's paradise. From swanky hotel restaurants to hidden gems tucked away in basements, the capital offers prime cuts that will make your taste buds dance.

Whether you fancy a classic ribeye or something more adventurous, these spots serve up the juiciest, most tender steaks in town.

    1. Hawksmoor (Seven Dials & Air Street)

Housed in a former brewery, this meat temple has become the gold standard for British beef. The chateaubriand here is so tender you could cut it with a spoon.

Their dry-aged steaks come from native breed cattle raised on small, sustainable farms. The Sunday roast is legendary too – get there early or face bitter disappointment.

    2. Blacklock Soho

Tucked away in a former brothel in Soho's backstreets, Blacklock serves chops and steaks seared over charcoal then finished on vintage irons. The 'All In' option will sort you right out after a heavy night.

Their meat comes from Cornwall's Philip Warren butchers, where the animals graze on lush pastures. Ridiculously good value for central London.

    3. Flat Iron

Started as a pop-up and now dominating London with multiple locations, Flat Iron democratized steak dining. Their namesake cut costs just a tenner – practically unheard of in this city.

Queue up early as they don't take bookings. Each steak arrives with a dinky meat cleaver and a free salad. The beef dripping chips are non-negotiable sides.

    4. The Guinea Grill

Stepping into this Mayfair institution feels like time travel to 1950s London. White-jacketed waiters serve perfectly aged cuts with old-school charm that's increasingly rare these days.

The Guinea has been serving steak since 1952 and holds a coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand. Their sirloin comes with a proper English mustard that'll clear your sinuses beautifully.

Wolfgang Puck's swanky steakhouse isn't for the faint of wallet, but bloody hell, it's worth every penny. The Japanese Wagyu practically dissolves on your tongue – no chewing required.

The theatrical open kitchen adds drama to your meal. Their bone marrow starter will have you questioning why you've wasted years not eating bone marrow.

    6. Ibai

Forget delicate tapas – this Basque-inspired spot in Borough Market specializes in Galician Blond, Spain's answer to Kobe. These retired dairy cows have lived full lives, developing extraordinary marbling and flavour.

The txuleton (pronounced 'choo-lay-ton') is cooked over wood and served bloody. Pair it with their patatas fritas and a robust Spanish red for pure carnivorous joy.

    7. Quality Chop House

This Clerkenwell gem has been feeding hungry Londoners since 1869. The Victorian-tiled dining room with its uncomfortable wooden pews hasn't changed much – but you won't mind once the food arrives.

Their in-house butchery ensures exceptional quality. The Galloway beef is aged for at least 60 days, developing a funky intensity that will haunt your dreams in the best possible way.

    8. Temper Soho

Fire is the star at this basement barbecue joint where everything – and I mean everything – gets cooked over open flames. Grab a counter seat for front-row views of chefs wrestling with massive hunks of meat.

Their unique approach includes unusual cuts and global flavours. The smoked goat is a revelation, but the beef offerings remain the headliners, especially when paired with their coal-roasted sweet potato.

    9. Zoilo

This Argentine hideaway near Selfridges serves up steak with South American flair. The intimate downstairs bar seats just eight lucky punters who get to watch their asado being prepared with religious reverence.

Their chimichurri sauce could make cardboard taste delicious, but thankfully it's slathered on perfectly cooked flank steak instead. Don't skip their empanadas – they're proper little packets of joy.

    10. Goodman

American-style steakhouse excellence with none of the cheesy gimmicks. Their meat-ageing room is like a scientist's lab dedicated to the pursuit of beefy perfection.

Choose your cut from the trolley wheeled to your table, then watch as it's grilled to your exact specification. The béarnaise sauce is silky heaven, and the truffle chips are worth every calorie-laden bite.
