Hosting a buffet doesn't mean you need complicated desserts that take hours to make. With just a handful of ingredients, you can whip up treats that will impress your guests without keeping you stuck in the kitchen.

These simple desserts require five ingredients or fewer, making them perfect for last-minute gatherings or when you're on a budget.

This article is for general informational purposes and inspiration only. Recipes, results, and ingredient availability may vary by region and brand.

    1. Peanut Butter Cookies

Three ingredients are all you need for these chewy delights. Mix one cup of peanut butter with one cup of sugar and a single egg until smooth.

Press fork marks on top before baking for that classic criss-cross pattern. They'll be golden and ready in just 10 minutes at 180°C.

    2. Rice Krispie Treats

Childhood memories come flooding back with these gooey squares. Melt butter and marshmallows together in a large pot until completely smooth.

Fold in Rice Krispies cereal, press into a greased tin, and allow to set. Cut into squares when cool for portable, hand-held sweetness that disappears quickly at parties.

    3. Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Elegant yet ridiculously simple! Wash fresh strawberries and pat completely dry – moisture is the enemy of melted chocolate.

Melt chocolate chips in short microwave bursts, stirring between each. Dip strawberries halfway, then place on parchment paper. Add white chocolate drizzle for extra fanciness if desired.

    4. Banana Ice Cream

No ice cream maker needed for this creamy treat! Slice ripe bananas and freeze them solid (about 2 hours).

Blitz the frozen chunks in a food processor until they transform into a smooth, ice cream-like consistency. Mix in a spoonful of peanut butter or cocoa powder for flavor variations that will amaze your guests.

    5. Fudge

Microwave fudge takes minutes to prepare. Combine a tin of condensed milk with 300g of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.

Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring each time until smooth. Pour into a lined tin, add optional nuts or sprinkles, then refrigerate until set. Cut into bite-sized squares before serving.

    6. Oreo Truffles

Crush an entire packet of Oreos (filling included) into fine crumbs. Mix thoroughly with one package of softened cream cheese until it forms a sticky dough.

Roll into small balls, chill until firm, then dip in melted chocolate. The contrast between the creamy filling and chocolate coating creates an irresistible texture that vanishes from buffet tables.

    7. Lemon Bars

Lemon bars don’t need to be fussy to taste amazing. A simple base of flour, sugar, and butter creates a shortbread crust that’s just the right mix of crumbly and rich. For the filling, whisk together eggs, lemon juice, and a bit more sugar, then pour it over the baked crust.

Once cooled and dusted with icing sugar, you’ve got tangy squares that vanish from plates in no time.

    8. Coconut Macaroons

These chewy little treats prove that simple really can be delicious. Mix shredded coconut with sugar and egg whites until everything sticks together, then drop spoonfuls onto a tray. They bake up golden on the edges with soft, sweet centres that make them impossible to stop at one.

If you’re feeling fancy, dip the bottoms in melted chocolate for a touch of indulgence.

    9. Brownie Bites

Rich, fudgy brownies don’t need a long shopping list! Melt butter and chocolate together, then stir in sugar, eggs, and flour until smooth.

Spoon the batter into a mini muffin tin and bake until set. Their small size means extra chewy edges and the perfect bite-sized treat.

    10. Apple Dump Cake

This one’s as easy as it sounds – just “dump” and bake! Spread tinned apple pie filling into a baking dish, sprinkle dry vanilla cake mix evenly over the top, and cover with melted butter.

As it bakes, the fruit bubbles up and the mix transforms into a golden, crumbly topping. It’s rustic, comforting, and the kind of dessert guests will scoop up before you even set down the spoon.
