Soho has welcomed a new restaurant that celebrates bold Thai flavours and the warmth of family dining.

Platapian brings together the vibrant spirit of Thai home cooking with a relaxed, social atmosphere that encourages sharing and conversation.

The menu offers familiar comfort for British diners – from smoky grilled meats to vibrant market vegetables – all elevated with the balance of spice, sweetness and heat that defines authentic Thai cuisine.

It’s a place where tradition meets modern Soho energy, inviting guests to linger, share and savour.

Platapian is deeply rooted in family heritage. Restaurateur Nam Parama Raiva opened the restaurant on Greek Street, taking over the site once home to her aunt’s long-running Patara Thai.

Guided by her family’s culinary traditions, she aimed to create a space that feels both personal and inviting – a modern reflection of her Thai upbringing shaped by shared meals and heartfelt flavours.

The menu at Platapian celebrates Thailand’s regional diversity, inspired by Parama Raiva’s own family background.

With a mother from the north and a father from the south, her cooking naturally bridges two worlds – the north’s comforting, mellow dishes and the south’s bold, fiery heat.

Guests can experience both ends of the country through plates like Chiang Mai’s fragrant sai oua sausage and a southern-style curry of braised duck leg with kreung cha chilli paste.

Platapian captures the essence of Thai family dinners – meals meant to be shared and enjoyed together.

Each dish is designed for communal dining, placed at the centre of the table to encourage conversation and connection.

Parama Raiva notes that the rise of small plates in London dining has helped introduce this Thai tradition to new audiences, turning group dining into an experience that feels both authentic and familiar.

From the mountainous north to the spice-rich south, Platapian’s menu takes diners on a journey through Thailand’s diverse flavours.

Highlights include smoky claypot rice, richly seasoned noodle dishes and hearty southern curries.

The ingredients and techniques pay homage to both regional cooking and the Chinese influences that have shaped Thai cuisine, offering a balanced taste of the country’s complexity in every bite.

At the heart of Platapian’s philosophy is the joy of sharing. Plates arrive in generous portions, designed to be passed around just as they would be at a Thai family table.

It’s a dining approach that feels warm and unpretentious – one that transforms a meal into a social moment.

The friendly service and relaxed atmosphere make it easy for guests to settle in, sample widely and linger over their favourites.

Even the restaurant’s name carries deep meaning. “Platapian” refers to a traditional Thai handicraft – a fish woven from palm leaves that symbolises good fortune passed between generations.

It’s a fitting metaphor for Parama Raiva’s vision: a restaurant that shares the blessings of her heritage with London diners.

From the décor to the dishes, every detail reflects a heartfelt wish to bring Thai warmth and generosity to Soho.
