Watermelon Water

Keri Bevan
Watermelon water is the refreshing summer drink you need in your life! The homemade version is so much better than anything you can buy at the store. It's sweet and frothy with a hint of lime flavor. The best part? All you need is a watermelon and two simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 7 cups watermelon chunks
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or sugar or agave nectar
  • Ice cubes optional
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice approximately the juice of one lime
  • 1¼ cups filtered water or sparking water

Instructions

  • Start by cutting the watermelon in half and scoop out the flesh using a large spoon. Place the watermelon flesh into a blender or a food processor.
  • Blend the watermelon until it becomes smooth and liquefied. Add the water, maple syrup and lime juice.
  • Once blended, strain the watermelon juice through a fine-mesh strainer to strain out any seeds and give you a smoother consistency. This step is optional and depends on personal preference.
  • At this point, you can add any additional flavors to your watermelon water that you liker. If desired, add a handful of fresh mint leaves to the blender and blend again for a few seconds. The mint will infuse a refreshing taste into the watermelon water.
  • If you prefer your watermelon water chilled, you can add some ice cubes to the blender and blend for a few seconds to incorporate them.
  • Taste the watermelon water and adjust the sweetness if necessary. Depending on the sweetness of the watermelon, you may not need any additional sweetener.
  • Once your watermelon water is ready, pour it into a pitcher or individual glasses. You can also add some ice cubes and garnish with a slice of watermelon or a slice of lime.

Notes

To Make Ahead Of Time:
To make watermelon water ahead of time, start by making the recipe according to the recipe card. Once blended, strain the mixture to remove any pulp or seeds. Transfer the watermelon water into a clean, airtight container or pitcher. Cover it and refrigerate for up to 24 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the water to infuse with the other ingredients. When ready to serve, give it a good stir and taste it to ensure you have the desired sweetness and flavor. You can add additional maple syrup or lime juice if needed before serving. Serve chilled over ice, and garnish with a wedge of lime or a few sprigs of mint.
Storage:
If you have leftover watermelon water, store it in a sealed container or bottle in the refrigerator. It's best to consume it within 2-3 days for optimal freshness and flavor. Before serving, give it a gentle stir to mix any settled ingredients.
