There was a time when the sound of an ice-cream van sent every kid running down the street, coins clutched tight, ready to choose between bright rocket lollies, toffee-coated treats, or that perfect 99 Flake.

Some of those beloved brands have since disappeared, leaving only hazy summer memories and the odd retro wrapper in a collector’s drawer.

These vanished favourites once defined British childhood summers.

Here are 9 classic ice-cream brands and treats that melted away but never left our hearts.

All information is provided for general interest only.

Brand details, product availability, and historical timelines are based on verified records where possible but may vary.

Before Wall's ruled the roost, another company was busy creating frozen magic across Britain.

Lyons Maid dominated ice cream vans and corner shops throughout the 1970s and 80s with their distinctive branding.

Their range included everything from simple vanilla blocks to elaborate novelty shapes that made kids squeal with delight.

The brand eventually got swallowed up by larger competitors, marking the end of an era for British ice cream history.

    2. Funny Feet Ice Lollies

Shaped exactly like tiny feet complete with toes, these banana and strawberry flavoured lollies were absolutely mental in the best possible way.

Kids would nibble each toe individually, making the treat last as long as humanly possible.

The quirky design made them instantly recognizable in any freezer cabinet.

Sadly, Funny Feet walked their last walk sometime in the early 2000s, leaving behind only fond memories and slightly disturbed adults.

    3. Lord Toffingham Ice Cream

With a name that posh, you knew this toffee flavoured treat meant business.

Lord Toffingham brought aristocratic elegance to the humble ice cream world, complete with packaging that looked like it belonged in a stately home.

The rich toffee flavour was absolutely divine, making ordinary ice creams seem rather common by comparison.

Unfortunately, his lordship's reign ended, and we've been left with considerably less sophisticated frozen desserts ever since.

    4. Zoom Ice Lolly

Rocket shaped and ready for takeoff, Zoom lollies promised to launch your taste buds into orbit.

These space age treats came in electric colours that would make a rainbow jealous, usually featuring multiple fruity flavours in one cosmic package.

Perfect for pretending you were an astronaut while getting a sugar rush.

The brand eventually crashed back down to earth, leaving space explorers everywhere searching for their next intergalactic ice cream adventure.

Nothing said summer quite like unwrapping a bright green amphibian that was absolutely bursting with lime flavour.

Fat Frog was unapologetically artificial, boasting a colour so vivid it probably glowed in the dark.

The chunky frog shape made it impossible to eat gracefully, but nobody cared because the tangy lime taste was absolutely spot on.

This cheeky little character eventually hopped away from British freezers, taking his electric personality with him.

    6. Orange Maid Ice Lolly

Bursting with proper orange flavour that actually tasted like the fruit, Orange Maid was the sophisticated cousin in the citrus ice lolly family.

Unlike other orange treats that tasted like medicine, this one delivered genuine fruity goodness in every lick.

The bright orange colour matched the bold taste perfectly, making it a reliable choice for citrus lovers everywhere.

When Orange Maid disappeared, it left a distinctly orange shaped hole in British freezers that's never been properly filled.

    7. Eskimo Pie

Few desserts could compete with the sheer joy of biting into an Eskimo Pie on a sweltering day.

Wrapped in foil, this chocolate-covered ice cream bar was more than a treat – it was an experience.

Originally created by Christian Kent Nelson in 1921, Eskimo Pie magically balanced creamy vanilla with a crunchy chocolate shell.

It was a favorite at family gatherings.

Despite its popularity, the brand succumbed to changing market tastes and corporate transformations.

A piece of Americana, Eskimo Pie has left a sweet void in the hearts of many.

    8. Orbit Rocket-Style Lolly

Once a symbol of childhood joy, the Orbit Rocket-Style Lolly was a vibrant treat shaped like a rocket.

Its bright, bold colors captivated the eyes of children, making it an irresistible choice on hot summer days.

The unique shape and layered flavors, starting with tangy orange and finishing with sweet vanilla, provided a delightful experience in each bite.

Though it soared high in popularity during the 1980s, changing tastes and market dynamics led to its gradual disappearance.

Today, the Orbit Lolly remains a cherished memory for those who experienced its fizzy, fruity charm.

    9. Jubbly Orange Drink

Technically more of a frozen drink than proper ice cream, Jubbly came in a triangular carton that you'd squeeze until the contents turned into the most refreshing orange slush imaginable.

The ritual of squashing and shaking became half the fun.

Perfect for hot summer days when you needed something cold and citrusy to cool down properly.

Though Jubbly eventually melted away from shop freezers, its unique triangular shape remains etched in British childhood memories forever.
