5 Burger Chains That Cost Too Much And 5 That Still Serve Quality

Fancy a burger but don't want to be left with an empty wallet? We've all been there, staring at a receipt wondering if that posh patty was worth the price of a small car.

Today, we're sorting the wallet-busters from the bargain bites, revealing which burger joints are taking you for a ride and which ones still deliver proper bang for your buck.

    1. Five Guys

Queueing for ages only to fork over nearly £15 for a basic burger meal? Madness! Five Guys may have the fancy peanut oil chips and unlimited toppings, but the eye-watering prices have gone beyond cheeky.

The American chain landed on British shores promising authentic stateside flavour, but delivered American-sized holes in our pockets instead.

    2. Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Remember when GBK was actually special? These days you're paying premium prices for increasingly mediocre offerings. Their 'classic' burger now starts at £10 without sides!

The quality has taken a nosedive while prices continue climbing skyward. What once felt like a proper treat now feels like daylight robbery with a side of disappointment.

    3. Honest Burgers

The name suggests transparency, but there's nothing honest about charging £13.50 for a basic burger. Yes, the rosemary chips are lovely, but not worth remortgaging your flat for.

The hipster-friendly chain has gradually inflated prices while portions seem to shrink. What began as a charming local spot has morphed into yet another overpriced London burger chain.

    4. Fat Phills

Marketed as 'gourmet' to justify the astronomical prices, Fat Phills leaves wallets considerably thinner. A basic cheeseburger, chips and drink will set you back nearly £20!

The portions aren't even generous enough to warrant the 'Fat' in their name. This trendy chain relies on flashy branding and Instagram appeal rather than actual value or exceptional taste.

    5. 7th Street Burger

Outrageous pricing for what's essentially just a decent smash burger! 7th Street has the audacity to charge upwards of £12 for a basic offering, then extra for every little addition.

Their 'artisanal' approach doesn't justify the London banker prices. What's truly remarkable is how they've convinced people to queue round the block to be fleeced. Emperor's new clothes, burger edition.

    6. McDonald's

Say what you will about Maccy D's, but they've kept prices reasonable while competitors soar. The humble cheeseburger remains one of Britain's best fast food bargains at just over a quid.

Their Saver Menu still offers proper deals that won't leave your wallet weeping. For a quick burger fix that won't break the bank, the golden arches continue to deliver consistent, affordable nosh.

    7. Burger King

The Whopper remains an absolute unit of a burger for a surprisingly reasonable price. BK's app deals frequently offer bogof burgers or ridiculously cheap meals that actually fill you up.

Unlike some competitors, they haven't sacrificed portion sizes to maintain profit margins. The flame-grilled difference is noticeable, and their chips have dramatically improved in recent years.

    8. Wendy's

Since returning to British shores, Wendy's has maintained surprisingly reasonable prices. Their square patties deliver proper meaty satisfaction without the gourmet markup that plagues other chains.

The Baconator offers serious bang for your buck compared to similar offerings elsewhere. Fresh, never frozen beef actually tastes better, and their potato options outshine most competitors at a fraction of the price.

    9. Smacks Hamburgers

This understated chain delivers properly smashed burgers at prices that won't make you wince. Their no-nonsense approach focuses on good ingredients rather than fancy marketing or hipster decor.

The double cheeseburger with crispy edges and properly melted cheese rivals offerings twice the price elsewhere. A refreshing lack of pretension makes Smacks a standout in the increasingly expensive burger landscape.

    10. Wingstop

Surprisingly, this chicken-focused chain serves up some of the best-value burgers around. While everyone bangs on about their wings, the burgers fly under the radar as proper bargains.

Juicy, well-seasoned patties with generous toppings come in at several quid less than comparable offerings elsewhere. Their meal deals including chips and drink won't leave you checking your bank balance in horror.
