Bananas Taste Sweeter With This Simple Kitchen Trick

Bananas are one of the easiest and most versatile snacks, but there’s nothing worse than biting into a fruit that’s still a little green and lacking flavour.

Fully ripened bananas are naturally sweet and soft, perfect for eating on their own, adding to porridge, or using in baking.

Luckily, there’s a quick trick that can take even slightly under-ripe bananas to maximum sweetness in no time.

This article is for general information only. Oven-ripened bananas may vary in texture and flavour, and photos are for illustrative purposes.

If you’re short on time but want perfectly sweet bananas, your oven can be your secret ally. This method works best with unpeeled bananas and requires just a baking tray and some baking paper.

Preheat your oven to around 150°C, then arrange the bananas on the tray, leaving a little space between each one.

Place them in the oven for about 20–30 minutes, checking occasionally. Bananas that are greener will need more time, while those already showing yellow can ripen in under 20 minutes.

Don’t worry if the peel darkens or even turns black – this is normal and means the fruit inside is becoming sweeter and softer.

    Why This Works

As bananas ripen, they naturally release ethylene gas, which triggers enzymes in the fruit to break down starches into sugars.

The result is a softer, sweeter banana that’s ideal for eating or baking. The heat from the oven accelerates this process, giving you ripe fruit in a fraction of the usual time.

    Perfect For Baking And Snacks

This trick is particularly handy for bakers who need bananas for recipes like banana bread, muffins, or pancakes.

Instead of waiting days for fruit to ripen on the counter, the oven method provides a fast, reliable way to get sweet, soft bananas.

It’s also perfect for turning slightly firm bananas into a tasty snack that kids or adults will enjoy immediately.

Whether you’re whipping up breakfast, baking, or just craving a quick sweet treat, this simple kitchen trick ensures your bananas are at their best every time.
